FAQs

What is the Duanesburg PTA?

The Duanesburg Community PTA is a newly chartered chapter of the national PTA organization. Its mission is to create an environment in which every child in our community can reach his/her potential through collaboration with families, community members, and local businesses.

What are the benefits of being a part of a national organization?

Being a part of the national PTA organization gives our chapter structure and oversight, standardized training for all board positions, financial regulations and chapter bylaws to follow, affordable insurance coverage for PTA events both on and off school grounds, non-profit tax status (501c3), access to national academic programs for the elementary and junior/senior high school, scholarship opportunities for students, continuing education opportunities for teachers, and representation in national and state-wide education advocacy efforts.

What is the difference between the PTSO and the PTA?

The PTSO was a local organization without ties to state and federal resources; our PTA chapter is part of a nation-wide organization. The activities of the PTSO were more limited due to the high cost of insurance coverage; the PTA has access to affordable insurance coverage, which allows for more varied activities and community involvement. Positions within the PTSO were appointed; board positions for the PTA are the result of open elections and committee positions are appointed.

What happened to the PTSO?

The PTSO transitioned to the PTA. Some activities associated with the PTSO have continued and new PTA-sponsored activities and advocacy have been added.

Who can be a member of the PTA?

Anyone! The PTA welcomes membership from parents, teachers, administrators, students, extended family, friends, neighbors, community members, and community businesses. Everyone is encouraged to join!

Is there a fee for membership?

Yes. There is a fee of $8.00 for any individual adult or student membership. $4.00 from each membership is forwarded to the national PTA organization to fund scholarships, educational opportunities, and education advocacy. The remainder (less a processing fee) helps to fund the Duanesburg Community PTA in its mission to provide enriching opportunities to our students and community.

What are the benefits of individual membership?

Your PTA membership offers many benefits to members, including discounts at businesses such as: AARP, Hertz Car Rentals, LifeLock Identity Theft Protection, LifeTouch National School Studios, MetLife, Quicken Loans, TeenSafe Smart Phone Monitoring, Sylvan Learning Center, and many more!
